Entries sought for fair fiddle contest
All ages are welcome to enter, and participation is free with the purchase of a fair ticket. The contest offers three separate age divisions, and each contestant performs two tunes – a waltz and a hoedown. The contest is for traditional fiddle music as opposed to classical, jazz, pop or rock. Traditional styles include Irish, French, Cajun, other ethnic styles, country and bluegrass. The contest purse totals more than $800.
In celebration of the fair’s 125th anniversary, some new highlights will be added to the contest. The fair is honored to have generous contributors from the community who have donated quality products, their time and creative talents. To commemorate this landmark year, artists Joshua Ebersole of the Art of Outdoors and Anna Kennedy have agreed to create artwork on fiddles donated by Patricia and Holly Austin of Austin’s Violin Shop.
Ebersole has created a bucolic farm scene on one of the fiddles that will be presented to the Sandwich Fair Museum, and the others will be auctioned to the public on the night of the contest. These are unique Sandwich Fair memorabilia from the 125th fair.
