MacPhail Combo Festival, Concert Features Trumpeter Phil Grenadier, March 3rd

Is a program of the MacPhail Center for Music, in partnership with the Dakota Foundation for Jazz Education. Now in its 7th year, this all-star high school ensemble is selected each September through open auditions, and spends the year rehearsing with director Adam Linz, attending clinics, visiting area schools, and performing at clubs, festivals and concert venues. This year, the Combo is an octet of musicians from throughout the metro area: Benjamin Beyene, drums (Minneapolis Roosevelt); Jack Courtright, trombone (Apple Valley); Peter Goggin, alto saxophone (Moundsview); Will Kjeer, piano (St Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists); Jackson Mullett, trumpet (Eden Prairie); Levi Schwartzberg, vibraphone (Minneapolis Southwest); Zosha Warpeha, violin (Perpich Center for Arts Education; and Sam Worthington, bass  (Moundsview). On March 3rd, the Combo will rehearse with Phil Grenadier prior to the start of the Combo Festival, and perform with Grenadier in the opening set Sunday evening. On March 10th, the Dakota Combo will perform at Landmark Center as the “student guest artists” for PipJazz Sundays.
