MUSIC REVIEW: FREE ENERGY - 'LOVE SIGN'
It is catchy and full of heavy-hitting drum beats and strong electric guitar riffs. And, as in any great pop song, the lyrics repeat forcing them into the listeners head and making it nearly impossible to not to sing along.
“Girls Want Rock” starts off in a little more light-hearted way with a soft open of oohs before they hit you with a wall of guitars. Through more delicate vocal harmonies and into heavy guitars and rock, this song works to seduce its listeners with charming lyrics and sweet, dueling vocal harmonies. They shift back and forth between rock and pop seamlessly. It is a tune that will have you wanting to jump up and down, first in the air as you sing back at the band.
Free Energy slows things down toward the end of the album with the song “True Love.” This track is a bit dreamy and one to sway to with a lover. Synths are the driving instrument alongside 80s-sounding drum beats. It is a little electronic mixed into a slower love song. The vocals and lyrics work together to melt hearts as they sing lyrics like “will you ever have another try” and “is there time to keep waiting around.” They produce a strange power through this song to urge the listener to take a chance and jump in without thinking, to take things back to a youthful time of rushing into things and playing by emotion more than rationality.
